In primul sau meci din grupa A,disputat la Bratislava pe Orange Arena ,vineri 29.04.2011 echipa Slovaciei a invins Slovenia cu scorul de 3-1(0-0)(1-1)(2-0)
desi scorul pare categoric in favoarea echipei Slovaciei ,pentru cei care au vazut partida a fost destul de clar ca jucatorii slovaci au castigat destul de greu aceasta partida ,iar golul cu numarul 3 a fost inscris cand poarta era goala ,sloveni in ultimul minut de joc au scos portarul pentru a forta egalarea si pentru a avea un jucator in plus pe gheata ,cu toate astea victoria este pe deplin meritata de cei care anul acesta sant gazdele celei de-a 75-a editi a Campionatului Mondial de Hochei pe gheata.
Golurile echipei Slovace au fost inscrise de catre :Satan Miroslav in minutul 35:16,Hossa Marcel in minutul 47:03 si golul cu numarul trei a fost inscris de catre  Bartecko Lubus in minutul 59:52,singurul gol al slovenilor a fost inscris de catre Kranjc Ales in minutul 22:37.
